Why Learn to Play Guitar With Me

15+ years playing

I started playing the guitar when I was a teenager and have been playing ever since.  It is the love of learning and the joy of pushing myself to the edge of my limits that I want to pass on to you!

10+ years teaching

I started teaching shortly after I started learning and have gathered enough experience to know what is going to help students move forward with their learning.

Grade 8 Classical Guitar

Classical music is not for everyone, but learning fingerstyle and classical guitar helped me understand that there is more to music than power chords and fast solos!

Lessons customized to each student

Whether you are 7 years old or 92 years young, I will help you get started with reading music or reading guitar tablature, chords, theory.

Learn songs you enjoy

Learn the style you love: Rock, Pop, Classical, Jazz, Blues, or Fingerstyle. From any band or artist, from Bach to the Beatles.  If I can play it you’ll learn how to play it too!

Technique and theory explained simply

Some lessons make music theory and technique seem like rocket science.  I’ll help you understand it simply so that you can take your playing to the next level.

Patient teaching style

With more than 10 years of experience teaching guitar, I’ve understood what it means to be a student and what the limits can be.  I’ll help you overcome these limits.

What you'll learn

Depending on what your goals are as a student you’ll learn as much as I can help you with:

  • Chords
  • Strumming
  • Fingerstyle
  • Scales
  • Improvisation
  • Music Theory
  • Ear Training
  • Song Writing

What to expect

First Lesson
First Chords, First Notes

We’ll get you started with the guitar basics; name the parts of the guitar, how to hold a guitar, how to fret the strings. Then we’ll get you playing your first chord, first notes, and even your first song.

Second Lesson
Chord Progressions Rhythms, First Riffs
We’ll expand on your foundations that you learned in week 1, learn a couple more chords, more notes. We now have enough chords for a new chord progression. We’ll strum a new song, and get to learn a new riff.
First Month
Scales, more rhythms, and duets

If we keep learning new notes and chords, we will have enough for a full scale. We’ll have enough chords and notes to learn a duet to play together.

Three Months
Pentatonic Scale, Power Chords, FingerStyle
We’ll keep the ball rolling by showing you the basics of different types of music. A very popular genre that utilizes a lot of guitar is Rock. I’ll show you how to play POWER CHORDS, the pentatonic scale and get you started playing fingerstyle.
Six Months
Full songs, solos, write your own music!
Once we’ve built all the foundations of playing music and the guitar, it’s all open from here. You can play solos, you can learn to play classical music, you can learn anything that you want.

F.A.Q.

What age do you teach?

I will teach young ones from 7 years old and up.  The only requirements are a willingness to listen and learn.

Do I need to have my own guitar?

Yes you will need to have your own guitar for our guitar lessons. I can help recommend good affordable beginner guitars. But I will always mention the fact that you are able to rent a guitar from your local Long & Mcquade.

Do you teach Online?

Yes, they are cheaper because they will not require any travel time but your experience will vary depending on the quality of your internet.

Can adults learn how to play the guitar?

Yes, adults are always welcome.  There is never a perfect age to start learning how to play the guitar or any instrument.  The students that excel the most are the ones who play more often and enjoy the process of learning, regardless of age or gender or race.

How much practice will I need?

Depending on how busy you are and what age you are, young ones should be practicing at least 5-15 mins everday.  For teenagers and above, I recommend that 15-30 minutes everday should be enough.  But no matter what age or what skill level, in order to learn something, you should try to practice once EVERYDAY.

What styles do you teach?

I have a lot of experience playing classical guitar music, blues, 80-90s rock (think Guns ‘n’ Roses, AC/DC, Ozzy, etc.).  Some lead guitar playing, rhythm guitar playing.
